More Scots on the way

I put in for enough additional Frontrank highlanders to bring the infantry up to 4 units of 24. 12 Scot cav from Dixon are also on order. Thanks to Caliver Books for making it affordable!

Also on the way from Frontrank are some random villagers and casualty models.
Since Rank and File uses 3 hits per base for a kill a la Warmaster I thought some casualty models would look nice as hit counters. Why litter the table with low-cost chits when you can buy more models?!

Rules in, Well I Hope....

http://www.crusaderpublishing.com/pages/RankandFile.php

I'll read them over the weekend and write up a review.
I have good vibes about them. I think they are worth muking about with.
I'm hoping cav formation run at about 8 figs, well, effective cav formations....

Here's a size comparison of a Foundry bondi next to a Jacobite with broadsword.

The Jacobites Are Here

The FrontRank Jacobites just came in. Here's a crummy camera phone shot of one of the batallion packs. It's got a nice assortment of weapons and a couple banner poles.

Now I've got to make it through the day so I can go home and play.

Base update

I transplanted a few Foundry vikings onto a 40mm sq base once they came in and it worked better than expected. The superglue held the figs to the HDF just fine; no sanding required.
I also glued some magnet to the bottom and that's working fine - the Norsemen climbed the refrigerator with relative ease, failing to pillage my freezer once they realized more siege equipment would be required to open the door.
I'll be sticking with Gale Force 9 for bases, but I'll probably upgrade to the larger container.

Cheap bases

The GF9 econo-bases came in.
A pint of 40mm squares had 58 bases in it and the 50mm had 44. We should be able to get some mileage out of that. They're very solid so I don't think the edges will fray at all. The top are a little smooth, so I might rough them up with a little sandpaper before gluing anyone to them. All in all a very affordable alternative to plastic slotta-bases!

Battlefield Reference

Added some links on the left for various resources. Great stuff for maps and troop composition.

R&F quick sheets

I got a chance to read through the Rank and File reference sheets and errata at lunch today. If they're any indication of what to expect from the rulebook proper, they should be right up my alley.

Other Figs

I feel compelled to mention that I don't own any front rank, yet....

I'm using a mix of Old Glory, Dixon and (primarily) Foundry. I hope to get something put toghether soon.
I'm thinking about doing oversized grenadier companies on their own 4 figure base. This way I can make combined grenadier batts.
So 12 musketeer figs, 4 CMD figs (just one ensign) and 4 grenadiers.

Bases and rules

Bases are on order - we're giving GF9's econo bases a shot. Basing for two armies for twenty bucks is worth trying. Lily Banner looks like it's on the outs. Nice fast rule set, but B-man said it best; seems too much like rock scissors paper. Personally, I'd like something a little deeper if I'm going to paint all these guys!
Hopefully the Rank and File rules set will prove to be more in line with our collective tastes.
